I am first a person whose journey with God and others is the orienting center of my life. I seek to share openly of this halting, faltering discovery of the story of God in everyday living.
I can be contacted personally at earthlytents@comml.imap.cc
After 22 1/2 years as a pastor of a Philadelphia area church, and almost two years in New Zealand at Laidlaw College in Auckland, New Zealand, I am located in Dallas, Texas, as the International Director of ALARM (African Leadership and Reconciliation Ministries). ALARM is an organization that seeks to restore communities that have been devastated by tribalism and warfare.
My wife, Naomi, is an amazing person with whom I share my journey. I am blessed with two special children whom I love and admire--Ben, a web designer living in San Francisco Rebekah, our daughter, a singer/actress in Texas.
My passions: reading, popcorn, writing, photography, walking, time with friends and family, thinking about the problem of evil and suffering, peace building and reconciliation, living out the gospel in a postmodern world.
You've been on quite a journey my friend, a pretty hard one that is for sure! After the announcement made on Friday and the difficulty it must have brought to wrestle with the why question. Why is it that just as you are able to step in and speak so well into various church contexts (I am so grateful for the sound counsel you have given me), God calls for a bit of time out? We can never answer the questions fully, but through your latter blogs you've worked it through, I've seen the weave of the "Ah-huh"! glimpsing through your thoughts. Thank you for not working through this alone, but casting your wonderings out for us to read and interract with.
I'm fairly confident that rather than being so upfront at College, and standing in the background cheering the team on, this service that you speak about will flow through as prayerful support for our friends who lead us, for wise cousel offered, for the right questions asked. You are a gift Meredith. You have never had to prove yourself in my eyes, because you are just you, a wonderful man who has a heart for the Kingdom, and has been called to us for this time.
Again, Meredith, thank you for your prompts. I have more thoughts, but am finding it difficult to write them to make any sense, so rather than rambling will leave it there for now.
