This is a remarkable passage that speaks of Jesus being a sympathetic high priest. The passage says that earthly spiritual leaders, even the top spiritual leader of a nation should be gentle to those who struggle. They should be gentle because they themselves as human beings are in need of the grace of God.
The passage also speaks of Jesus praying and petitioning God the Father with loud cries and moans and that the Father responded to him because of his submission. His sufferings were a part of the demonstration of his submission to the Father. The book of Hebrews is a key book for reaching out to Muslims. It contains much religious imagery and uses language regarding Jesus that bridges the Muslim understanding of faith-including suffering, crying out to God, submission to the will of God
For Christians it is a great source of encouragement and strength. We have a God, a Savior who can identify with us; who is gentle with us; who longs to intervene on our behalf.
