I don't know LeBron James, never really heard him speak his heart in an interview. I've wondered in recent days who his who his advisors are. He is only 25 years old. The hour interview and hoopla on ESPN smacked too much of narcissim and me-first mentality. James ultimately is responsible and will find more hardened and cynical fans facing him in arenas around the country. I think there was the hope before this evening that there might be thoughts regarding his teammates who allowed him to dominate touches in the offensive game for the Cavaliers; there might be thoughts of playing for the love of the game; loyalty to those who invested in him inside and outside the game; and gratitude and sensiviity to the Cleveland fans who have endured one calamity after another. Why not downplay his decision versus do all in one's power to strengthen "his brand." Money, celebritism and narcissim seemed rampant . . . again I can't judget his heart . . . just reporting my reaction and the reaction to many fans.
Why not just low key it a bit, and to make a decision surrounded by deep gratitude for the fans, family, friends, franchise that gave him the platform for basketball greatness. Treat them with respect and kindness and they will be sad to see him go but they will feel like he was a good guy. The ESPN spectacle revealed a side of James that is deeply concerning . . . I fear for him . . . you have one city rooting for James (Miami) and now the balance of cities, not neutral or even excited about watching James play, but rather actually rooting against the guy. It's hard to root for someone who appears to have sold his soul.
