The responses of Lebron James and Cleveland owner, Dan Gilbert, in the Lebron James sweepstake demonstrate the low road. More things have come to light regarding James' behaviors in the past season, such as refusing to shake Orlando Magic players hands after the Magic shocked the Cavaliers out of the playoffs. Gilbert's critical emotional remarks regarding James, such as suggesting that James quit during the playoffs, may express Gilbert's opinion but do nothing to build respect and dignity for a franchise.
Compare the response of Kurt Heinrich, formerly of the Chicago Bulls who was traded by the Bulls in an attempt to create the salary cap room to acquire James. In a day when players almost always bash former owners or teams or who complain how the millions they made playing for a franchise somehow wasn't enough, Heinrich's remarks are refreshing.
""I'm excited and motivated for the opportunity," Hinrich said in a phone interview. "I hope it works out for the Bulls. I really enjoyed my seven seasons there. To get drafted by the Bulls and have the opportunity to grow as player, I had a blast. I tired to play hard for the fans.
"My favorite memory was draft night. We had a lot of good times and tough times. I've made a lot of good friends. I had a lot of great teammates. The front office was always very fair with me."
This is a class guy and says something about the Chicago Bulls organization as well. The Bulls deliberate rebuilding process over the past five seasons and the recent acquisitions, might make me a Bulls fan. Regardless what team I root for, I know I join the thousands of fans who in the past week, have gotten three reasons to root agains the Miami Heat.
